who we are
Forward Thinking.
Community Driven. Locally Loyal.
The Friends are people who think about the future of this town and actually do something about it. We’re a think tank for the community — generating ideas, creating momentum, and building the kind of downtown that makes people proud to live here.
We’re financially supported by the town government and community sponsorships, but we operate with the independence that’s essential to real grassroots work. That means we can push for the things that matter, advocate for the people who live and work here, and move with the energy the community deserves.
We’ve seen what happens when big-box development replaces America’s Main Streets. We’re choosing a different path: one that preserves the small-town charm Yadkinville already has while building something new on top of it.
In 2025, FDY earned its official 501(c)3 status. We have a funded budget, a growing team, and our feet firmly under us.
The real work is just beginning.
We aim to make things happen
Events, beautification, public space improvements, business support — if it helps downtown grow, we’re working on it. We bring ideas to town government, study their viability, and push to make them real.
We invest in people and properties
Local Loyalty goes beyond “shop local.” It means helping business owners improve their properties through grant programs, so the right businesses can take root and stay.
We are building something for everyone
Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or just discovered Yadkinville, there’s a place for you downtown. We want newcomers, visitors, business owners, and lifelong locals to all feel the same thing when they walk these streets: this is somewhere worth being.
What “Friends of Downtown” Actually Means:
a few things worth
celebrating so far...
A Downtown in Motion
The momentum is real and it's building. Downtown Yadkinville is moving — and we're just getting started.
A Funded Budget
We're not running on hope. FDY operates with a funded budget and a growing community of supporters who believe downtown is worth investing in.
Official Nonprofit Status
Earned in 2025. FDY is now a fully recognized 501(c)3 — which means every dollar donated goes further, and every partner we bring on knows we're built to last.
The Summer Concert Series
Hundreds of people downtown, every summer. Our Concert Series is proof of concept — that when you give people a reason to show up, they will.
Public Space on the Agenda
FDY's public space improvement proposals are now under active study by town government. The conversation has officially started.
